Social Responsibility
Nicky Roote Physiotherapists supports the Zanethemba Safe Haven, providing the children they care for with free physiotherapy services.
Zanethemba is a Temporary Safe Care Facility in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, for young children aged 0 to 6 years old. The children in their care that have been neglected, abandoned, orphaned or abused. All children are placed in their care by Social Workers, from various organisations, by means of a court order. The children remain there until a permanent solution can be worked out for their situation.
We are usually called in to assess and treat children for issues of developmental delay, or weaknesses related to long hospital stays or neglect. The careworkers there are amazing at implementing our exercise programs for the children, who make exciting improvements. Through the SASP Community based rehab group we arranged for some amazing play equipment to be donated (including the ball pool and stepping bolsters you see in the photos).
